August 30, 2009 - Fixed staff, as we no longer have sub-admins

Overall
DATS.us (hereafter referred to as "DATS") exists to serve it's userbase through a variety of methods, including but not limited to discussion forums, subtitled anime episodes, scanlated manga, interactive chat, and much more.

All staff are accountable for their actions, and should something happen that should not have, users are encouraged to talk to one of the admins, sub-admins, or super moderators of the forum, as they are the ruling portions of the DATS.us community.

However, remember that DATS works as a dictatorship. A select few weild all the power.

DATS is a generally rated PG-13 forum, sometimes drifting into R rated territory. Therefore, users should be warned of this and be cautious when viewing content that may or may not be appropriate for them. DATS.us is not to be held liable for users looking at content that is not appropriate for their age.

NC-17 or M rated content is allowed providing that there is ample warning, such as the Adult limit on the Oekaki, or a obvious note in a forum topic title.

Respect
Respect is a core ideal throughout humanity, and DATS wishes to encourage that. Therefore, any racial, sexual, or similar slurs will not be tolerated. Yes, one may be opinionated about one of these, but that does not entitle one the option of expressing those feelings in hurtful terms.
This section includes "bashing" of certain groups that may not follow "mainstream" culture, such as "furries," "lolicons," "shotacons," or similar.

Harassment is also included in this.

The upper staff are the owners of this place, and SHALL be treated with respect. Bad mouthing and back-talking will not be tolerated, and will result in penalties. Repeated instances will lead to bans.

No Spam
SPAM is not tolerated on any of the DATS subsites. SPAM is clarified as "Stupid, Pathetic, or Annoying Messages" and encompasses all things that simply don't need to be posted.

Topics in the forums should be kept relatively on topic. Off-topicness is acceptable at an appropriate level, and should be kept to a very low amount. If discussion gets too off topic, it should be moved to PM or a new thread should be made.

For those that feel the need to "SPAM it up", we now offer a S.P.A.M. forum as a subforum of General. It can be found here (http://forums.dats.us/forumdisplay.php?f=113).

Trolling
Trolling is the posting of content that is very obviously written in order to get a reaction out of people. Instances would be posting about canibalism in a favorite recipe topic, or about how Pokemon sucks in a general appreciation topic.

Trolling in general is very easy to spot, and will not be tolerated. If we think it looks like trolling, we'll call you on it. So it depends on how it looks to any staff member.

Advertising
DATS does NOT want unwarranted posting of outside links. This means that general advertising is not allowed on DATS, but links may be posted when it is appropriate to the discussion at hand.

For instance, making a link to a page on Digital Starlight in a discussion about the Digital Gods would be appropriate, while posting a link to your "cool new forums" is not.

And here's some common sense: this is the DATS forums. Therefore, it makes sense that we post links to the various parts of DATS. So it's not against the rules to post links to pages on GRN, to pages on Wikimon, to pages on the Portal, to pages on When Stars Align - that's all just fine. It's outside links that we don't want, like your "cool new forum" or "this awesome new site". We're not interested in those, unless they pertain to the topic that you are posting in.

Another example: say you're posting in a thread about the new Zelda game, and your "cool new site" has some really awesome pictures that you took while visiting a Nintendo confrence. Then it's okay to post a link there. But it isn't okay to post a link to your "cool new site" in the topic talking about your favorite food. Nor is it okay to open a brand new topic for the pure purpose of advertising.

General Forum Rules
x Avatar sizes are defined by usergroup. You can see your limits in your UserCP.
x Illegal computer content should not be posted in the forums. This includes warez, cracks, serial numbers, and the such.
x Thread titles should give a general idea of what the thread is about.
x ROMs for non-English games are allowed, English game ROMs are not allowed.
x Do not request downloads of anything that has been licensed by FUNI.
x Any questions or comments should be posted in the Customer Service (http://forums.dats.us/forumdisplay.php?f=11) forum or PMed to a staff member. Staff members can be viewed on the Forum Leaders (http://forums.dats.us/showgroups.php) page.

Forum Signature
x Please refrain from having an extremely long signature. This is to help keep pages so that more than 1/2 of the loaded page is actual posts.
x Users are allowed up to 3 images in their signature, and the combined size should not exceed 256KB.
x It is encouraged to keep your signature within a 500x250 pixel size (widthxheight). Higher resolutions will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. That means your signature should be able to fit in this box.

Release Rules
x Our releases should never be sold over eBay, or any similar method. Really, our releases should not be sold for profit anywhere. If such an event happens, users are encouraged not to purchase them, as they are not supporting the team - only the person that downloads and then burns to CD. Please do not report these, as there is nothing that we are able to do.
x Users are welcome to reupload our releases to other services, such as MegaUpload, another torrent tracker, or direct downloads on their site. We only request that these links not be paid for, and that attribution to DATS remains in the filename. (Ex: digimon-savers-26-dats.avi) Keeping the original filename would be really nice though.
x Do not distribute re-encoded versions of our files, like iPod versions, or RM versions, or whatever versions. You are welcome to re-encode them for your own good, but please do not give them out. Thanks!

Fanart
Fanart posted ANYWHERE on the DATS network, may it be the forums, the oekaki (though that should normally be your pictures...), the forum albums, wherever, it MUST be properly credited. If there is no credit listed, it will be assumed stolen and the picture will be deleted, and depending on the number of pictures and repeat offenses, the poster may be banned.

DATS thinks stealing artwork is a horrible thing to do, and we've allowed it for far too long, and it will no longer be tolerated
If you do NOT know where you got it from DO NOT POST IT. Either give the site link you got it from or something, but if you just found it randomly on your hard drive and decided to upload it and have no clue who it is, DO NOT do so. That is NOT proper crediting by saying you forgot and can still be labeled as stealing.

The following artists have requested that their work NOT be uploaded other places than their site:
Windia
Star Wave
Blue&Red
Passion
Amamitsuhoshi
Struggle XX
Tomo Inuzumi
Digital Snow
Sky Signal

Bans
x Ban evasion is not allowed, and any new accounts will be banned, and the original ban extended
x Assisting friends to ban evade by pretending to "not know them" or such is reason for both users to be banned.
x Questioning Rocknote's ban will equal a ban itself including a certain Thesis.

Power
Power on DATS is not a democracy, it is more the style of a dictatorship. A few members wield the majority of the power. They are the Administrators, the Sub-Administrators, and the Super Moderators. Their voice is law here on DATS, and they should be followed accordingly.
Users that attempt to impersonate staff, or imply that they are staff will be dealt with accordingly.
If a member has a problem with a staff member, they should first notify that staff member via PM, and if that does not work out, go to the next highest level.
Super Moderator -> Administrator -> Skr (http://forums.dats.us/member.php?u=2) / Cael (http://forums.dats.us/member.php?u=18) (Co-owners) -> Greg (http://forums.dats.us/member.php?u=1) (Owner)

Illegal Activities
All content is recorded, and due to the way our vBulletin installation is set up, very little, if any, is ever completely deleted.

Therefore, widely accepted "wrongs" are not to be relayed here. For instance, don't talk about eating your neighbor or killing your girlfriend. It's not cool. It's wrong, and if we have reason to believe that you are telling the truth, proper authorities will be notified.

Rules May Be Updated At Any Point
There will normally be a reply to this thread when rules are updated, but there may not always be one. Members are expected to know the most up to date rules and to follow them.

Users Are Not Required To Remain Here
If a user does not agree with these rules, or believes that these rules are unfair, then the user has the option of leaving. DATS does not require users to stay active, they are welcome to leave at any point.

Credit Please
I realize that people think our rules are wonderfully written and perfect in every sort of way... so if you want to base your own rules off of ours, go ahead. Just please don't copy it directly, and credit us. v_v

Trolling in general is very easy to spot, and will not be tolerated.Although trolling has never been allowed, by request, I have clearly laid it out.

I would also like to remind people that rule support is subjective. Not every possible instance can be covered, otherwise you would spend a few hours reading the rules. Instances will pop up that may or may not fall into rule breaking. If you are concerned about whether your content would be allowed, feel free to contact any staff member and we will be glad to tell you if it is okay or not.

Another thing that should have been obvious, but apparently was not.

Not huge, but I reread the rules recently and thought I should fix this. :3

I have noticed a few signatures that do not fit in that box and will dispose of them in the next few days if they are not fixed.
