Welcome to the DATS Chess Tournament of Fame and Glory.
To participate you must know how to move the pieces and you need a yahoo mailing account. No YIM, just a mailing account which you can create for free on the site (http://www.yahoo.com/).
It's one round a week, so if you want to play, make sure you can spare the time.
The winner will get half of my kingdom and Rein's first-born son/daughter, and, of course, all of the fame and glory.
To enter the tournament, post in this thread.
As a wise man once said, "There are more adventures on a chessboard than on all the seas of the world."
I would enjoy a tournament very much. :3

If we win, do we have to take all the prizes offered?

Given that I have no actual kingdom yet, and the woman deranged enough to sleep with Rein has been hiding well so far, you don't need to worry about that now.

Players would be split into blocks. Ever watch DBZ and the tournaments? Remember the status boards? Something like that, I think.
Check out this link:

And we play on Yahoo! Games to play each other. Pretty simple.

The Yahoo! Games site has a chess section. You and your opponent would meet there at a time when you're both available and play. The results would then be returned to Zelsius. To play on the Yahoo! Games site, you need to sign in using a Yahoo! Mail address. It's free and doesn't take long to register, so don't let that stop you from playing.

My first born daughter/son? I've already entrusted them to Pazuzu when I die.
By that I mean to say that it is highly unlikely that I'll ever have a child, lol. Oh yeah, and I'm taking part in the awesome tournament, too. Wonderful idea, Zelsius. That is why you are so much greater than I am, and why Pazuzu loves you to death while he doesn't give me more than a fleeting thought every once in a year.

Let's begin, then. Rein and digiboy cannot participate right now, but depending on when they come back, they might get their chance anyway.
There'll be five rounds with changing rules.
For the first round goes:
Win and you'll be in the second round. Lose and you're out. You can't offer nor accept draws, there must be a winner. Of course the chess rules can still force a draw, but no voluntary ones allowed.
The pairings and colour you'll be playing you can take from these:

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/ZelsiusWaki/LecrosvsZelfish.png
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/ZelsiusWaki/TakatofanvsJup.png
Please get into PM contact with your opponent concerning the time you want to play the game, etc., and try to finish your game within one week starting today.
When you've played, the winner should report the outcome in this thread, please.
Any other questions still open, PM me, or post here.

Yay, pairings! And pretty, colour-coded pairings, no less. Mysterious rule changes sound entertaining, though I wonder very much what they are. Oh well. You'll tell in time.

My Brother would politely request the moves of the game if possible - e.g
1. E4 e5
2. Nc3 Nc6
etc...
He's pretty good at chess as well, and would like to analyze the game you guys play. Don't have to though :), but it would be appreciated.

The next game I play, (and probably definitely lose, I can't get far, I suck at this game), I'll try to remember to do that. I'm in such a great mood...no Lit work for like another week! I just have to do some readings I did back in high school. lol I love when stuff I've read before pops up.
Hur we go... I'm still not sure how I measure up to everyone else... :/

If your brother wants to see our chess games, tell him to participate next time.
You can send the moves' list to your eMail address on yahoo. Just pay attention to the options shown on the left side of the board, it's somewhere there. If you want to share the moves' list, make sure both players are okay with that.

Nemomon - White
Spire - Black
According to Zelsius's adjudication, black in the set game won, although I should have lost at move 9 when I made a blunder in which Nemomon graciously allowed me to take back. We will have a re-match though.

03-15-2008, 12:56 PM
To clarify for the most stubborn among us:
You are allowed to request your last move be taken back. Your opponent can decide whether he agrees with that or not. If he allows it and loses in the end, it does not mean your win is worth nothing. It is perfectly legitimate in this tournament as yahoo (where we play) offers this option.
Well played, both of you.
Furthermore, if a player doesn't show up for his game (Chris) within the destined time, he loses automatically.
Nemomon

Since i'm tired and java doesn't like me, i give up rematch. Spire, You're the Winner, regardless of Your move. Congratulation. Maybe someday (without a tournament) we will play again.

No. It's allowed on yahoo and it's allowed in this tournament. If a player doesn't want that in their game, they can simply deny it when it's requested.
Joey, I know. This'll get you an easy win, though.

First round ended.
Winners of the first round are Spire, Ebbit, SSJ Jup, and me. Those will enter the second round now. As Chris didn't show up for his game and digiboy returned, Joey's opponent for the first round was changed to digiboy. Game still pending since they didn't have as much time as the rest of us.

Well played, everyone.
Now, the second round is a point-based system. Every player has to play two games. For every win you get a point. A loss just means no point. The player with the least points at the end of the round will be out. If more than one player has that score, there'll be a bonus match to decide who can stay.
Second round's games are:

Hello, Roll's brother.
You only need a normal yahoo mailing account. With that you can play all of yahoo's games on the site.
It's too late to enter this tournament, sadly, as it wouldn't be fair for the other contestants, but you're very welcome to play me anytime you want. (And take part the next time we do something like this.)

So now it's official. No one reads the rules!
Fine, listen to me, I'll try to make it quick and easy to understand.
Joey, play Jup.
Jup, play Joey.
Then the second round ends. Thanks for your attention.

Oh...I totally missed that. Okay...now I play and lose to Joey. ><; Isn't Joey a tough player? *Trains Rocky style* =P
Seriously, I just figured that 0 - 0 wouldn't count and that the rule for moving on to the next round only counted for those who actually got points.
Let's play in the morning then. XD

*Only got 3 hours of sleep the previous night* I'm surprised I"m not knocked out right now. I think I'm much too tired to feel even remotely sleepy if that makes any sense.

Have you two played?
Oh yah, since Spire and I both have two points we have to play each other, too, so that he'll have three.

Not yet, and it's my fault. How much longer until we can play? Seems that I'm going to be much too busy to do much of anything until the weekend rolls around. I'm certain I could play on Friday, but if that's too late, just give the victory to Joey.

Originally the round was over on the first, but Spire and I didn't get to play yet, either. We'll do so this weekend, so if you and Joey can play till Sunday, it's okay. There're only us five left anyway, so no hurry.

Alrighty. That's good to know. ^_^

Let Joey get the victory. I'm much too tired to play. ><;

I played Spire and resigned. Of course he will pay for this horrible insult in the coming rounds. Moves list may follow, depending on whether Spire received the mail.
This round is therefore over.

The points gained are as follows:
Spire: 3
Zelsius: 2
Ebbit: 1
Joey: 1
Jup: 0
According to the rules no one reads that means that Jup is out. I'll post the next round [soon]. Yes, I have not given up hopes that someone will actually read it!
Many thanks to Ebbit for obviously helping again.

You will see me lose in the following two rounds, too, Vande. There're two players better than me in this contest, after all. Try playing Spire! XD

Thank you, Jup. =)
The third round is a bonus round. It won't get you kicked out, regardless of the results. However, they will be added to the points already gained before and will therefore decide the opponents for the next round.
The setting of players is this:
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/ZelsiusWaki/fourway.png
The board we will play on will look somewhat like this:
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/ZelsiusWaki/quattro.png
So yes, we will have a four-way war!
This game is called Quattro Chess. There seems to be no agreement on fixed four-handed chess rules, but I kept mostly to the Quattro Chess model.
Special rules:
The goal is, of course, to be the last one standing. So you have to checkmate your opponents.
When a king is checkmated, the player lost, and their pieces remain standing on the board, dead. They can't move anymore, but apart from that nothing changes. You can't just move through them as if they weren't there, but you can beat them without getting beaten from them.
The four squares in the middle of the board are the Kings' Salvation. If you can move your king onto your colour, you win the game.
The game will last for as long as there're players left who haven't won/lost yet.
We will play this weekend. As we're in four different time zones, organisation is a bit complicated. Here's the time in your respective time zones:
Spire - Sunday, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Dear Myself - Saturday/Sunday, between midnight and 2 a.m.
Ebbit - Saturday, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Joey - Saturday, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
If there're questions, feel free to ask. Otherwise we'll see on Saturday/Sunday.
P.S.: Every player got to choose their colour themselves. Joey begged me for pink. I swear.

You want to hear something ironic...I now have free time again. I lost my job. -_-; On the bright side, I found another one almost a day later, so let's hope I keep this one.

It's chess meets Chinese checkers. <.<
How we're going to play this game escapes me, unless we're editing an image of the board after each move. However, you're here to do the planning, not I, so I'll wait to see what entity plan has been devised.
This looks like it will be a lot of fun. The time should be good for me, so I hope it'll be good for everyone else too. ^^

It is.
Obviously I asked them when they'll have time before setting the date.

After a heated four-way battle with logs that are tl;dr but very funny, the board finally looked like this (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/ZelsiusWaki/round33.png), at Joey's turn.
Surviving uncertainness of rules in a four-way, a sleepy pic-updater who failed many times (don't look at me!) and eight hours of straight battle, Joey managed to win the game. Ebbit had been checkmated at this point by a cross fire of green and pink sparkles. I resigned since Spire had betrayed me anyway. So the results...
1. Joey
2. Spire
3. Zelsius
4. Ebbit
Congratulations, Joey! <3
We now enter the second to last round.

So, after only over a month of struggling with Spire moving, overall business, and time zones, I have come to the conclusion I won't find the time to concentrate on a game with Spire anytime soon.
It is clear he would have won anyway, though, so I step back and let him play the final with Ebbit directly.
Last round! Good luck, you two!
