The DNS server failed again, and once again, I wasn't around to fix it.

But ... you have two DNS servers. If one dies, it shouldn't cause such an outage.

Tell that to BIND :( I'm not much of a techie, but I know that when I restart it, it works again.

I don't really think there are 2 domain name servers but just different ips pointing to the name server to go around the requirement of having 2 dns servers. So when one dies, there's no backup. "Tell that to BIND" - I wouldn't dream to!

EDIT: Why don't you set up an automatic monitering service?

It was a bit weird.

Some could access irc while others couldn't.

Some could access the forums, while others couldn't.

I'm just glad to have everything back~

That was probably because of DNS caching - but then I recommend you to add 208.98.33.170 to the list of IRC servers just in case the DNS goes down again.
